Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. She was a young woman with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet to examine the how gender is represented in games. In the end, she ended up being the target of cyber-bullying. This attack didn't stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her determination as a feminist critic of media. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field were recognized by a variety of prizes.
